“Just start” Those words have annoyingly been spinning around in my head for the last couple of weeks – so here it is, the blog has begun! Thank you for taking a few minutes to read it and I’m afraid you’re not going to get off that lightly, hopefully you will get involved too.
This is the start of my ‘Feck it List’.
And this is why I’m doing it:
A year ago I started running and during what unexpectedly became a very tricky year, running has kept me sane. I run when I need to clear my head, I run when I need space and I run when I need to remember that the chaos doesn’t last forever and before I get too preachy/or turn into a hallmark card, it was that or a bottle of wine a night!
A year to the day after my husband left (that was the tricky part) I ran my first proper 10km race and did it in just over 55 min, something which I never would have imagined doing before the chaos, every cloud eh! I felt great after it, the support of family and friends was just amazing and I managed to raise some funds for One Family http://www.onefamily.ie a great charity who support single parent families. I’d have to say, it has been life changing for me and now running is something I will just always do.
Roll on a couple of weeks later, my amazing sister-in-law asked if I’d do a tandem sky dive with her to help raise funds for Tinylife (don’t worry, chasing you for more sponsorship is not where you have to get involved but feel free :o)) and obviously still high on adrenaline, my immediate response was ‘feck it, why not? So she got me signed up before I had a second to actually think it through.
And that’s where the idea started – I never ran before and ended up loving it, I’ve never tandem sky dived before, what if I end up loving it? Doubtful, I know. But what if over the next year I said “feck it, why not” to every challenge that I’m asked to do?
Well, simple really…I know my friends too well and riding a unicycle naked around Stephens Green is not my idea of fun.
So with your help (yep, this is where you come in) I’m going to compile a list of 40 challenges, tasks, missions and adventures and complete them over the next year when I’ll be turning 40. All your suggestions are greatly welcomed and all will be considered.
I’m looking for things that will challenge me and also some that will involve my gorgeous boy, Rory as I’m also just finding my feet becoming a single Mum to a brilliant, kind, dinosaur crazy boy whose favourite word is poopypants! Things that we can do together and things that I might not have considered doing on my own and if there’s anything that you’ve wanted to do and have been looking for somebody to do it with, now is your chance!
So to start – please leave a comment or email all ideas you have to me at feckitlist@gmail.com and come back to see how it’s going.
Thanks for reading,
Becs x

Good for you! How about sleeping out under the stars, on your own or with Rory – no tent, just sleeping bags (and maybe waterproof bivy bags)?

What if I promise to leave the tent door open? Like properly open, not just a teeny corner at the bottom where we could stick our noses out π
And thanks a mil for your input!
Camping out over night definitely going on the shortlist!

Ooh, getting Lynds to do a sponsored silence with you? πΉ I’m sure that would raise a lot of money… (..as well as eyebrows and laughs!)

Not a chance! I might not manage to complete every task but I’ve got to give myself a fighting chance so not sure a sponsored silence with Lyns will make the list!

I know it’s a massive country, but if you made it over to canada I could take you to the worlds largest dinosaur in Drumheller, Alberta π there’s a massive dinosaur museum there too and we’ve got lots of room for visitors!

This is supposed to be awesome. I know Al & Gerry did it in the last few years & loved it. Not one for Rory necessarily but it means we’d get you over to the UK for another trip (always a bonus plan !) and not too far from Manchester for a day trip,
check it out.

Here’s a couple of suggestions, for a start, Becs:
1. Open-top canoe trip down the River Barrow from Athy to St. Mullins. There’d be at least one overnight camping. This would work for you both
2. Get cycling, and sign up for a sportif event. The most local event is the Leinster Loop. It’s outstandingly well run. Start/Finish at St. Laurence’s GAA, Narraghmore. Sunday Aug 16th, this year. 50k/90k/130k routes, plus 12k/25k family routes the evening before.
I’ll think of more, but that’s it for now. π
